Khargeswar Rabha, a Deputy Superintendent of Police attached to the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell in Assam, was found dead in a hotel room in Bongaigaon on Thursday. Officials stated that his partially decomposed body was recovered from Room No. 102 of Hotel Jahnavi Regency. The circumstances leading to the discovery of the body and the official cause of death remain unclear as investigations get underway.
At the time of the recovery, no official information was immediately available regarding whether foul play was suspected or if a post-mortem examination had taken place. Police are expected to investigate the sequence of events leading up to the officer's death, and further details regarding the investigation and medical examination are awaited.
This incident follows several other recent episodes involving police personnel in Assam, such as a September 10 attack on a police team in Nagaon district that injured five personnel, a September 3 shooting at the Gamerimura Police Outpost in Kamrup district that killed two officers, and a March 22 militant attack using rocket-propelled grenades that injured four personnel at a commando post in Tinsukia district. However, police have not established any connection between these security incidents and the death of Rabha.
