Vantawng Khawhthla, also known as Vantawng Falls, is the highest and most spectacular waterfall in Mizoram. It is located near Thenzawl in the Serchhip district, about 5 kilometres south of the town and around 92 kilometres from Aizawl, the state capital.
The waterfall is situated on the Vanva River and has a height of about 230 metres (750 feet), making it the tallest uninterrupted waterfall in the state. Surrounded by dense forests and steep hills, the falls are difficult to approach closely. To allow visitors to enjoy the breathtaking scenery safely, a viewing tower has been built nearby.
According to local legend, the waterfall is named after Vantawnga, a skilled swimmer who was said to move through the rushing water as gracefully as a fish. During one of his swimming performances, a drifting log fell from above and tragically struck him, leading to his death. The waterfall was later named in his memory.
