Khwairamband women vendors protest killings and demand leaders' resignations

Women vendors at Khwairamband Keithel staged a protest demonstration on October 22, 2026, expressing strong outrage over the killing of three Meitei woodcutters at Khongbal Sunurok Uyok by Kuki militants. During the demonstration, the protesters demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Y Khemchand, Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, and Rajya Sabha MP A Sharda Devi due to the Government's failure to protect lives.

The protest involved holding a sit-in demonstration at Khwairamband Keithel, where workers ceased their daily operations for the day to voice their anger against the authorities. Following the sit-in, the women vendors organized a protest march through the Keithel area, strongly denouncing the tragic incident at Sunurok Uyok and loudly raising slogans demanding that the named leaders step down from their positions.

The demonstration highlights mounting local pressure on political leadership in response to ongoing violence and security lapses in the region. Protesters maintained their stance that official accountability is necessary following the deaths of the woodcutters, as community members continue to demand effective government protection against attacks by Kuki militants.
