Assam fast bowler Jintimani Kalita has been added to India's women's ODI squad as a replacement for experienced pacer Renuka Singh Thakur ahead of the three-match series against Zimbabwe. The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed the roster change, stating that Renuka is still working to achieve the required bowling workload for the 50-over format at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
Renuka last played an ODI in March during the series against Australia. She also played in two matches at the Women's T20 World Cup in June and was selected for the Test against England at Lord's in July without playing. Meanwhile, Kalita earned her maiden India call-up for the preceding T20I series, which India won 3-0. Although she did not feature in the T20I matches, she has traveled with the team to Baroda for the one-day fixtures.
The young seamer has built experience through domestic and franchise cricket, making 13 Women's Premier League appearances across two seasons with Mumbai Indians and taking one wicket. She also played in the white-ball series against Australia A in September and traveled to England with the India A team earlier in the year.
All three ODIs between India and Zimbabwe will take place in Baroda from October 23 to October 28. India aims to carry the momentum from their T20I victory into the 50-over format, while Kalita looks to gain further experience in the senior national team environment. Renuka will continue her preparation at the Centre of Excellence to meet the physical demands of ODI cricket.
